South Main Corridor
The City of Rockford, the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Lakota Group worked closely with the residents, business owners and numerous staekholders in the South Main Corridor to create the South Main Revitalization Strategy. This planning effort was initiated to maximize the investments soon to be made in the area's infrastructure, especially the replacement of the Morgan Street Bridge and major improvement to be made by IDOT to the South Main Corridor.
There were four Community Workshops held within the community, and the consultants interviewed numerous stakeholders before developing their initial report, "The State of the South Main Corridor". Following the fourth Community Workshop was the presentation of the recommended "South Main Revitalization Strategy", which was subsequently approved by City Council as an amendment to the City's Comprehensive Plan.
The South Main Revitalization Strategy contains a variety of detailed research and design recommendations, including a real estate market study, a transportation analysis, and a land and use and economic devlopment plan.
